What is my IP address?

Your public IP address is how the internet sees you. It reveals your approximate location, your internet provider, and whether your connection has been flagged on any security blacklists.

What does my IP address reveal?

Your IP address tells websites and services several things about your connection: your approximate geographic location (city and country level, not your exact address), your internet service provider, whether you're connecting from a residential, business, or datacenter connection, and whether your IP has been flagged for any malicious activity.

Should I be worried about my IP being visible?

Your IP address is visible to every website you visit — this is a normal part of how the internet works. It's not a security risk in itself. However, if your IP appears on blacklists, it could mean a device on your network has been compromised, or that your ISP has assigned you an IP that was previously used for spam.

Use our Blacklist Check to see if your IP is listed anywhere. If it is, check our Blacklist Guide for what to do.

How do I hide my IP address?

You can mask your IP address using a VPN (Virtual Private Network), which routes your traffic through a server in another location. This changes the IP address that websites see. ignixip can detect whether an IP is a VPN, proxy, or Tor exit node — try looking up a VPN server IP to see.

Can I look up someone else's IP address?

Yes — enter any IP address into ignixip to see its location, owner, blacklist status, and risk score. This is useful for investigating suspicious connections, checking email senders, or researching IPs from your firewall logs.

IPv4 vs IPv6

Most connections still use IPv4 addresses (like 192.168.1.1), but IPv6 (like 2001:db8::1) is increasingly common. ignixip supports both — we'll detect and look up whichever version your connection uses.
